Corkscrew Swamp

Our field trip to the Corkscrew Swamp was definitely one of the more interesting ones that we took this semester. It was the trip where we saw the most wildlife and I think that is what everyone finds most interesting, you can only look at so many plants and trees before they all start to look the same.

The board walk was interesting in itself, the way it weaved and incorporated the cypress trees in it in order to preserve the most trees and have the least amount of impact on the natural flow of the water.

Since we went during the winter time which is the dry season in Florida the was not much standing water so the guide that we had said it was highly unlikely that we would see any gators. However we actually did see a good amount.

We also saw several other forms of wildlife in the form of birds and insects. One example was the barn owl that was actually pretty close to the boardwalk.

Overall I found this trip to be very interesting and worth the trip out there. We saw lots of interesting things including the all to common parasitic species for that time of year the "snow bird". I also learned that you cannot always trust apple maps because it will sometimes take you on a route an hour longer than the route you should have taken.
